  Guy L. Morse, III

The direction of the Boston Athletic Association, including the Boston Marathon, B.A.A. Half Marathon and year-round B.A.A. events, falls under the charge of Guy Morse.

As the first Executive Director of the B.A.A. and its premier event - the Boston Marathon - Morse is responsible for maintaining the tradition and prestige of the world's oldest annual marathon, while assuring that the race is financially and organizationally foremost among major, international sporting events.

Morse has played an integral role in enabling the Boston Marathon to regain its stature as the world's foremost running event. With the B.A.A. Board of Governors, Morse engineered a long-term major commitment with John Hancock Financial Services, an agreement, which was unprecedented in the world of sponsorship. The complete, overall long-term support from John Hancock for the Boston Marathon was considered a pioneer sponsorship when it went into effect in 1986, and it remains unique to the sport. Most recently, in January of this year, Morse announced – along with representatives from the Flora London Marathon, real,-Berlin Marathon, LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, and ING New York City Marathon – the formation of the World Marathon Majors (WMM) and World Marathon Majors Series, an association and competition designed to elevate the sport of marathon to new levels in the public’s conscience.

Now in his 21st year with the B.A.A. (he was also the B.A.A.'s first full-time Race Director), Morse works closely with the eight cities and towns along the course, and has overseen the development of a network which provides race participants with a first class level of support.

Building on the success of the Marathon, Morse developed a flourishing year round community outreach program that has enabled the B.A.A. to offer tremendous assistance to youths from community based organizations and schools with the opportunity to participate. He was instrumental in developing an official charity program, in which a number of regional charitable organizations are allowed to use the Boston Marathon as a fund-raising platform, which has raised nearly $70 million since its inception in 1994.

In February 2006, Morse was inducted to Running USA’s Hall of Champions in recognition for his dedication, innovations and years of service to the sport and industry.

A native of Marlboro, Massachusetts, Morse (born on June 1, 1951 in Framingham, MA) is a 1974 graduate of Northeastern University. He resides in the Cape Cod community of Centerville with his wife, Nancy. They have four children: Jillian, Katie, Elizabeth, and Daniel.
