The mission of Best Buddies is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendship, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  To accomplish this mission, Best Buddies Massachusetts works directly with more than 70 school-based chapters throughout the Commonwealth, and 40 employers throughout Greater Boston.

Funds raised will directly support our efforts to enhance the lives of youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, by facilitating one-to-one friendships and increased social inclusion.  With the B.A.A. Boston Marathon Charitable Program, we are improving the lives of our participants one stride at a time!

1996 - Centennial Boston Marathon

The historic centennial Boston Marathon in 1996 was monumental for many reasons. It was the not only the first time that the ChampionChip timing and scoring device was used in a major US Marathon, but it was the largest running event ever held at the time.

The starting field of 38,708 stood for more than seven years as the largest in the history of the sport. Included among the finishers were 16 Boston champions.
