Jack Fleming - Chief Operating Officer

Jack Fleming was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2017, and has been an integral part of the Boston Athletic Association’s growth since 1991. He has spearheaded the organization’s sponsorship procurement efforts, youth programming development, and communications strategy for nearly three decades. In his role as COO, Fleming manages the day-to-day operations of all facets of race management, athlete development, and the community service commitment of the B.A.A.

During Fleming’s tenure, participation within B.A.A. events has grown six-fold to more than 60,000 participants annually. He has facilitated long-term growth within sponsorships, contributors, and media management, all the while ensuring participant experience remains the utmost priority.

Fleming has been involved with many projects within the organization, including the creation of the B.A.A. Relay Challenge and Training Basics youth programs; conceptualization of the B.A.A.’s Champions’ Trophy; and the founding of B.A.A. mass participatory events including April’s B.A.A. 5K, June’s B.A.A. 10K, and October’s B.A.A. Half Marathon. Collectively, the three-race series is known as the B.A.A. Distance Medley.

Managing public relations, media and community relations, Fleming has seen the race through many milestones, including the centennial Boston Marathon in 1996; the launch of the World Marathon Majors in 2006; hosting the 2007 USA Women’s Marathon Championship and U.S. Olympic Team Trials Women’s Marathon in advance of the 2008 Olympic Games; the tragic events of 2013 and the resilient return in 2014. He was the project leader in bringing Boston Marathon adidas RunBase to Boylston Street just steps from the Marathon finish line in 2015.

Fleming has helped transform B.A.A. events from single-day footraces to full, week-long participant experiences all the while staying true to the B.A.A.’s core mission of promoting healthy lifestyles, especially through running.

A native of New Orleans, Fleming attended Boston College where he received degrees in Communications and Economics when graduating in 1991. He resides in Natick, Massachusetts along the Boston Marathon course with his wife Kathy and their three children.
