Registration for the Boston Marathon typically opens in early September, approximately seven months before the race. The B.A.A. uses a process to register runners which allows the fastest qualifiers in their gender and age group to register first.

Only officially registered participants are allowed on the course. The course and finish area facilities close six hours after the last runner crosses the starting line. The Boston Marathon does not have a race walk division.

The Boston Marathon does not have official pace groups or pacers. However, if you are a qualified athlete you will be seeded with athletes with equal abilities. All qualified runners are seeded based off their qualifying times.

Poland Spring Water and Gatorade Endurance Formula are the official fluids provided approximately every mile along the course as well as the start and finish areas.

Poland Spring Water, Gatorade, Clif Bar, light refreshments, entertainment, tenting and portable toilets will be provided in the Village. Only official runners and volunteers will be allowed to enter the Village.

No headquarters hotel has been designated for participants, but participants may find it convenient to stay in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, which is where the race finishes.

All prize money winners will be decided by gun time. All age group division awards will be awarded by net time.

No, there are no special allowances for Clydesdales and Phillies.

The Boston Marathon Number and T-shirt pick-up will be held at the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo, during official expo hours. There is absolutely NO number and T-shirt pick-up available on race day.
