Those unable to complete the entire Boston Marathon course within the period of time in which official race times are recorded (six hours from the time the last official starter in the fourth wave crosses the start line), you will not be recorded in the official race results. Finish area facilities officially close at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET. The course will close at various intervals before that time.

All finishers will receive a specially designed medal before exiting the finish chutes. No finisher’s certificates will be issued on site, but will be mailed to all finishers once all of the results are made official. This process usually is completed by the summer following the race.

We are able to provide transportation to the start from Boston to Hopkinton for officially registered runners only. There is no public transportation to Hopkinton.

Seats at the finish line at the Boston Marathon are very limited and are reserved only for official race partners. They are not sold by the B.A.A. Nearly the entirety of the Boston Marathon course, including space in view of the Boylston Street Finish Line, is open to the public on a first-come basis.

For application into the Boston Marathon, applicants must provide the name and date of the Marathon at which they qualified, and their official finishing time. The B.A.A. will verify all qualifying times before granting acceptance into the race.

Stop for assistance and direction at one of the 26 Red Cross aid stations along the course. Sweep buses pick up runners at every Red Cross station with drop-off at the finish area medical tent. Aid stations along the course close at staggered times during the day. Finish area facilities officially close six hours after the last runner crosses the start line in Hopkinton. (About 6:00 p.m.)
