The B.A.A. Half Marathon course is an out-and-back route that takes runners along the Emerald Necklace park system, and includes a section of the Franklin Park Zoo. Franklin Park is one of the oldest in America, and is the largest jewel of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace park system, covering 527 acres in Dorchester and Roxbury.

The Boston Athletic Association today announced its field of elite athletes for the 11th Annual B.A.A. Half Marathon on Sunday, October 9, 2011. The men’s and women’s list, as of today, is attached to this release. The B.A.A. Half Marathon starts and finishes at White Stadium in Boston’s Franklin Park beginning at 8:30 a.m., and has been annually presented by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Jimmy Fund since 2003.

At the conclusion of the first week of registration, nearly 15,000 applicants were informed of their acceptance. A total of more than 20,000 entrants will be accepted through this process. Additionally, 277 qualifiers who have run ten or more consecutive Boston Marathons have been accepted and notified.

The boards of both World Marathon Majors (WMM) and Association of International Marathons (AIMS) have reviewed the recent Congress decision and believe that it does not represent what is required by the sport of road running.


They further believe that there should be two world records for women’s road running performances, separately recognising those achieved in mixed competition and women’s only conditions.

Enman (Huntington, Vt.) became the first senior U.S. woman to win an individual gold medal at the race, helping Team USA to an overall fourth-place finish. She recorded a time of 40 minutes, 39 seconds over the 8.59 kilometer course.

It was also the first appearance for Enman in the World Mountain Running Championships. She qualified for the event after winning the 2011 USA Mountain Running Championships June 26 in North Conway, N.H.

“We regret the news we recently received on the passing of Mr. Doroteo Flores, of Guatemala, the Boston Marathon’s first Latin American champion in 1952,” said Tom Grilk, B.A.A. Executive Director.
