BOSTON, April 7, 2016 - The 120th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18, 2016, and surrounding Marathon-related events including the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo and the B.A.A. 5K, will bring an estimated $188.8 million (USD) in spending impact to the Greater Boston region, according to Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) President and CEO Patrick Moscaritolo. Held annually on Patriots’ Day, the Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest consecutively run marathon and ranks as one of the world’s most prestigious road racing events. The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has managed and organized the Boston Marathon since the event’s inception in 1897.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announces Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) will serve as the first presenting sponsor and exclusive fundraising partner of the B.A.A. 10K. The 2016 B.A.A. 10K, presented by BWH, will be held on Sunday, June 26, starting and finishing on Charles Street adjacent to Boston Common.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced today that Roberta “Bobbi” Gibb will be the Grand Marshal of the 2016 Boston Marathon® on Monday, April 18. One of the Boston Marathon’s most recognizable pioneers, Gibb became the first woman ever to complete the Boston Marathon in 1966, when she raced from Hopkinton to Boston as an unregistered participant. At that time, women were not yet allowed to officially register for the Boston Marathon. Her successful finish at the 1966 Boston Marathon became a historic milestone in the women’s running movement.

Registration for the 2016 B.A.A. Distance Medley begins today, Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. ET, allowing for early entry into the three-race series. In its fifth year, the B.A.A. Distance Medley is comprised of April’s B.A.A. 5K, June’s B.A.A. 10K, and October’s B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.
