The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that several former champions of the Boston Marathon® will return to participate in events surrounding the 118th Boston Marathon, to be held on Monday, April 21, 2014. Champions Joan Benoit Samuelson (ME; 1979, 1983), Amby Burfoot (CT; 1968), and Gelindo Bordin (ITA; 1990) will join 36,000 entrants in this year’s running of the world’s oldest annual marathon.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that defending push rim wheelchair division champions Tatyana McFadden (USA) and Hiroyuki Yamamoto (JPN) will compete in the 2014 Boston Marathon® on Monday, April 21. McFadden and Yamamoto will lead a field size of 63 athletes that also includes past Boston Marathon champions, world champions, Paralympic champions, and world record holders. For the 29th consecutive year, principal sponsor John Hancock Financial Services will provide the prize purse for the race. The men’s and women’s champion will each win $15,000 (USD) in prize money. The wheelchair division awards a total of $60,000 (USD) in 2014.

On Saturday, April 19, 2014, the Boston Athletic Association will support local blindness organizations - National Braille Press, Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Perkins, and The Carroll Center for the Blind - by hosting the third annual blindfold challenge within its B.A.A. 5K.

John Hancock Financial today announced John Hancock Elite Athlete Team changes for the 118th running of the Boston Marathon on April 21, 2014. Additions to the elite men’s field include U.S. Olympians Ryan Hall and Abdi Abdirahman and Kenyan elite Mathew Bowen. Withdrawals to the elite men’s field include Kenyan elite Moses Mosop, U.S. Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein and Australian Olympian Jeffrey Hunt.

The Boston Athletic Association announced today plans for an official tribute event to mark the one year anniversary of April 15, 2013. The event, hosted jointly by Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Governor Deval L. Patrick in coordination with One Fund Boston will be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston on April 15, 2014.

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with LA Roma Films, to produce “Boston” the first ever feature-length documentary film about the Boston Marathon - the world’s most legendary running race. 

Directed by Jon Dunham, award winning filmmaker/marathoner of the critically acclaimed Spirit of the Marathon films, and produced by Academy Award™ nominee Megan Williams, the film is expected to be released in late 2015.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced a new prize money structure for B.A.A. Distance Medley events, which will award nearly $150,000 USD in prize money each year, a 55% increase over the guaranteed total prize purse in 2013 for those three events. The purse for each race has been increased. In addition, bonus incentives have been established both for professional runners recording multiple top finishes at B.A.A. events in 2014 and for event record times set at B.A.A. Distance Medley events. Prize money awards and bonus incentives are equal for men and women.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that registration for the 2014 B.A.A. 5K has closed after its 10,000 entrant field size limit was reached. The B.A.A. 5K will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014, two days prior to the Boston Marathon® and will be the first event of the 2014 B.A.A. Distance Medley. Registration opened on Wednesday, February 5 at 10:00 a.m. ET and closed approximately one day later at 3:35 p.m. ET.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), organizer of the Boston Marathon, today launched Boston Marathon World Run, a mobile application and website that connects runners from around the world with the 2014 Boston Marathon. In response to receiving an unprecedented amount of inquiries from runners seeking to participate in the 2014 Boston Marathon, the B.A.A. created a virtual experience in which all runners, regardless of ability or geography, could run a distance of their choosing and participate in the athletic spirit of the event.
