The Boston Athletic Association announced today the elite field for the 15th annual B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. Headlining the professional field are this year’s Boston Marathon champion Caroline Rotich, as well as two-time defending B.A.A. Distance Medley victor Stephen Sambu. Both are from Kenya. The B.A.A. Half Marathon will be run on Sunday, October 11, 2015, beginning and finishing in Boston’s Franklin Park.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today continued its notification to applicants of their acceptance into the 2016 Boston Marathon®. In preparation for the 2016 Boston Marathon, the B.A.A. implemented the same registration process for qualified runners as it used in the 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Marathons, allowing the fastest qualifiers to register first. The 120th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 and will mark the 31st consecutive year that the event will have John Hancock Financial as its principal sponsor.

Registration for the 2016 Boston Marathon has now closed. The registration process for the 2016 Boston Marathon began on September 14, and the maximum number of athletes who ran a qualifying performance and submitted their application for entry has now been reached. Registration will not reopen.

Registration for the 2016 Boston Marathon will re-open on Monday morning (September 21) for all qualifiers who have met the standard by any amount of time. This next phase of registration will occur from Monday at 10:00 a.m. ET through Wednesday, September 23 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Registration for the 2016 Boston Marathon opens on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The B.A.A. will use the same process to register qualified runners as it used in the 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Boston Marathons, allowing the fastest qualifiers to register first.

The Boston Athletic Association announced today registration procedures for the 2016 Boston Marathon regarding Athletes with Disabilities. The 120th Boston Marathon will be run on Monday, April 18, 2016, Patriots’ Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Boston Athletic Association is pleased to announce that former NCAA 10,000 meter champion Emma Bates has joined the B.A.A. High Performance Team, coached by Terrence Mahon. Bates, who graduated from Boise State University this spring, brings great experience to the B.A.A., which is sponsored by adidas.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that registration for the 15th B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, closed after its 8,500 entrant field size limit was reached. The B.A.A. Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015, and will be the third and final race in the 2015 B.A.A. Distance Medley. Registration opened on Wednesday, July 15 at 10:00 a.m. ET, and closed at 5:00 p.m. ET, on Thursday, July 16.

The 15th annual B.A.A. Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 11, beginning and ending at Boston’s iconic Franklin Park. Having long been New England’s most prestigious half marathon, the B.A.A. Half Marathon has showcased some of the world’s best runners, including Boston Marathon winners and World Championships gold medalists. This year, the race will feature a field size of 8,500 participants, with registration beginning on Wednesday, July 15, at www.baa.org.

Participants running on behalf of more than 200 non-profit organizations raised $28.3 million for charity this year in the 119th running of the Boston Marathon.  The overall total includes $15.6 million raised through the Boston Athletic Association’s Official Charity Program, $10.6 million raised through John Hancock’s Marathon Non-Profit Program, and $2.1 million raised by qualified and other invitational runners.

B.A.A. Moment 2

1935 John A. Kelley

Born in West Medford, Massachusetts as one of ten children, Kelley ran track and cross-country at Arlington High School in Massachusetts. He did not finish his first Boston Marathon in 1928, but eventually competed in a record 61 Boston Marathons. A legend of the marathon, Kelley won the 1935 and 1945 runnings of the Boston Marathon. He finished in second place at Boston a record seven times. Between 1934 to 1950, he finished in the top five 15 times at Boston, consistently running in the 2:30s. He ran his last full marathon at Boston in 1992 at the age of 84, his 61st start and 58th finish there.
