For the first five years of the B.A.A. 5K, which was run for the first time in 2009, the women’s race saw five different champions. But for the past three, the top step of the podium has been the sole province of Molly Huddle.

Chilly temperatures in the mid-40s and blustery winds greeted the thousands of runners gathered on Boston Common to contest the eighth annual B.A.A. 5K. Twelve months previously, Ben True had scorched to a national record-setting 13:22 victory. True was back this year, though hampered by a hip injury that had forced him to skip March's NYC Half and take two full weeks off from running.

Nine Boston Marathon champions, including defending champions Marcel Hug of Switzerland and Tatyana McFadden of the United States, will compete in the push rim wheelchair division of the 120th Boston Marathon, to be held on Monday, April 18. Nearly 50 athletes will compete in the push rim wheelchair division, which starts in Hopkinton before the open start featuring 30,000 runners. The push rim wheelchair men will begin at 9:17 a.m., followed by the women at 9:19 a.m.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced an elite field of world class competitors for the 2016 B.A.A. 5K and B.A.A. Invitational Mile, to be held on Saturday, April 16, two days prior to the 2016 Boston Marathon®. Rhode Island’s Molly Huddle and New Hampshire’s Ben True will return to Boston aiming to defend their B.A.A. 5K titles, which they earned in national record time last year.

BOSTON, April 7, 2016 - The 120th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18, 2016, and surrounding Marathon-related events including the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo and the B.A.A. 5K, will bring an estimated $188.8 million (USD) in spending impact to the Greater Boston region, according to Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) President and CEO Patrick Moscaritolo. Held annually on Patriots’ Day, the Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest consecutively run marathon and ranks as one of the world’s most prestigious road racing events. The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has managed and organized the Boston Marathon since the event’s inception in 1897.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announces Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) will serve as the first presenting sponsor and exclusive fundraising partner of the B.A.A. 10K. The 2016 B.A.A. 10K, presented by BWH, will be held on Sunday, June 26, starting and finishing on Charles Street adjacent to Boston Common.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced today that Roberta “Bobbi” Gibb will be the Grand Marshal of the 2016 Boston Marathon® on Monday, April 18. One of the Boston Marathon’s most recognizable pioneers, Gibb became the first woman ever to complete the Boston Marathon in 1966, when she raced from Hopkinton to Boston as an unregistered participant. At that time, women were not yet allowed to officially register for the Boston Marathon. Her successful finish at the 1966 Boston Marathon became a historic milestone in the women’s running movement.
