Registration for the 2014 Boston Marathon re-opens on Monday, September 16 at 10:00 a.m. ET to runners who have met Boston's Qualifying Standards, and application submissions will be received through Friday, September 20 at 5:00 p.m. ET. During this period, any eligible qualifier may submit an application for entry.  Please note that entry is not first-come, first-served.

At the conclusion of this period, those accepted for entry will be notified via email and their names will be posted to the "Entrants" page of www.baa.org. Entry will be based on remaining space and an applicant's qualifying performance.

The large volume of applications received combined with the qualifying race submitted will result in verification and acceptance notification varying from one individual to another.  Next week, at the conclusion of the entry period notifications will be issued.

1920 - Ashland Start

The Boston Marathon began in Ashland, Massachusetts from 1897 through 1923 then moved to Hopkinton for the 1924 race. The course was lengthened to 26 miles, 385 yards to conform to the Olympic standard, and the starting line was moved west from Ashland to Hopkinton. Since then, the race has started in Hopkinton every year.
