The Italian Coffee Company Becomes the Official Coffee of the Boston Marathon

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced today the beginning of a partnership with Italian coffee roaster Lavazza to become the Official Coffee of the Boston Marathon.

Lavazza will provide runners in April’s Boston Marathon with its product in Hopkinton’s Athletes’ Village before the 119th running of the world’s most historic road race.

“Coffee is an important part of the race-day routine for thousands of runners, and certainly for Marathoners,” said B.A.A. Executive Director, Tom Grilk. “To have a partnership with a world-famous brand is immensely gratifying, and Lavazza’s engagement with our runners will have a positive impact on our runners’ experience in Boston.”

“This year we are honored to be part of one of the most historic marathons in the U.S.,” says Ennio Ranaboldo, CEO of Lavazza North America.  “Having experienced great success with previous sports related partnerships, we look forward to providing our authentic coffee to the thousands of runners and spectators in attendance, while also showing our support for a great city like Boston.”

Lavazza will also engage B.A.A. runners in digital and social media activations throughout the course of the year.

To celebrate the new partnership, Lavazza is offering Boston runners 20% off their entire ShopLavazza.com purchase through 5/31/15 by using promo code LAVAZZARUN.

ABOUT LAVAZZA & COMPANY
Established in Turin in 1895, Lavazza has been owned by the family of the same name for four generations. The world’s seventh ranking coffee roaster, today Lavazza is the retail market leader in Italy with a market value share of over 47% (source: Nielsen) and sales of EUR 1,340 million (as of December 31, 2013). The company has five production sites, four in Italy and one abroad, and operates through associated companies and distributors in more than 90 countries. Lavazza invented the concept of blending - or in other words the art of combining different types of coffee from different geographical areas - in its early years and this continues to be a distinctive feature of most of its products. The company also has 25 years’ experience in the production and sale of portioned coffee systems and products and was the first Italian business to offer capsule espresso systems. Lavazza’s North American headquarters are in New York City and they compete in the roast & ground, single-serve, and away from home segments in the USA and Canada. Lavazza is the official coffee at the Italy Pavilion, Expo 2015.  For more information on Lavazza, log on to lavazza.com, “like” the official Facebook page, facebook.com/lavazza, or follow @lavazzausa on Twitter.
