A very successfully day of racing at both the USA Cross Country Championships and the Boston Indoor Grand Prix.

The Boston Athletic Association had a very successfully day of racing on Saturday, competing well at both the USA Cross Country Championships and the Boston Indoor Grand Prix. At the USA Cross Country Championships in Boulder, Colorado, B.A.A. team members Jen Rhines and Elaina Balouris both qualified to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China, on March 28.

Rhines qualified for her seventh World Cross Country Championships thanks to a third place finish overall, completing the 8 kilometer course in 28:21. Balouris will represent Team USA and the B.A.A. for the first time at an international cross country competition after finishing sixth in 28:29.

Also competing at the USA Cross Country Championships were Juliet Bottorff (15th overall in 29:20) and Justin Lutz (57th place).

A total of 75 women competed in the open division of the USA Cross Country Championships. Race videos and results can be found at USATF.tv, while a full replay of the Women's race is available here.

The IAAF World Cross Country Championships will be held in China for the first time this year. The last American to win the IAAF World Cross Country championships was Lynn Jennings, victor in 1990, 1991, and 1992. The 1992 Championships were held in Boston's Franklin Park, home to the B.A.A. Mayor's Cup and Boston Middle School Championships.

Shortly after the USA Cross Country Championships wrapped up in Boulder, a number of B.A.A. athletes took to the track here in Boston at the Boston Indoor Grand Prix. Dan Lowry ran among Olympic and World Championships medalists in the 3000 meters, recording a personal best of 7:56.33 which qualifies him for the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships to be held in Boston from February 28 through March 1.

Also sporting the B.A.A.'s famed unicorn uniform at the Reggie Lewis Center were Emily Lipari (eighth in the 1000m, 2:45.79), Steve Mangan (sixth in the mile, 4:16.61), and Chris Magill (eighth place in the master's mile, 4:37.19).
