Seven club members earn their way to Olympic Marathon Trials

The Boston Athletic Association was very well represented today at the 2015 USA Half Marathon Championships in Houston, Texas, as all seven athletes competing raced their way to USA Olympic Marathon Trials qualifying times.

Leading the way were Juliet Bottorff and Katie Matthews, both of whom finished in the top ten of the women's race. Bottorff, making her half marathon debut, placed sixth in 1:11:30, while Matthews took eighth in 1:11:57. One second was the gap between B.A.A. teammates Heather Cappello and Sarah Pagano, who finished 15th and 16th overall. Their times were 1:13:07 and 1:13:08, respectively; this was Pagano's first career half marathon.

For the men, Eric Ashe and Ethan Shaw both notched top-25 finishes. Ashe placed 23rd in 1:03:33 while Shaw crossed the line eight seconds later in 25th place (1:03:41). Brian Harvey ran to a 43rd place finish in 1:04:44.

All seven of the B.A.A. athletes competing at the USA Half Marathon Championships dipped under the USA Olympic Trials Marathon standard of 1:05:00 for men and 1:15:00 for women. The 2016 USA Olympic Trials Marathon will be held on February 13, 2016 in Los Angeles, California.

Reigning Boston Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi finished fourth overall in 1:02:18, beginning his quest to repeat as Boston Marathon champion. He will return to Boston for the 119th Boston Marathon on April 20, seeking to become the first back-to-back American men's champion since Bill Rodgers won three titles in a row from 1978 through 1980.
