Historic Finishes For the BAA Men's & Women's Teams at the 115th Boston Marathon.

Historic Finishes For the BAA Men's & Women's Teams at the 115th Boston Marathon.
It was an historic day for the Boston Athletic Association Running Club as both the Men's & Women's Open Teams captured the team titles while breaking club records for the fastest team finishes at the 115th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18, 2011. This year marked the third time that both the men's and women's teams have won the team title in the same year, with the other dual victories coming in 1997 and 2002.

The women kept their winning streak alive, capturing their third consecutive team title and their ninth overall. The trio of Kasie Enman, Elle Pishny and Jennifer Campbell, combined for a speedy 8:10:45. Their time bettered the previous B.A.A. women's best time by over 9 minutes; the 2006 team ran 8:19:57. They also lowered the overall team record by 57 seconds set by the Hanson-Brooks distance Project in 2007. Enman was the first B.A.A. woman to cross the line just breaking the 2:40 mark. Her 2:39:55 has qualified her for the 2012 Olympic Team Trials Women's Marathon, which will be held in Houston in 2012. Pishney, a student at the Harvard Business School, also qualified for the marathon trials, finishing in 2:44:40. Campbell, in only her second marathon ever, bettered her PB by over three minutes, barely missing the Olympic Trials standard of 2:46:00 with her 2:46:10, but her performance helped secure the victory for the women's team.

The men had cause to celebrate as they captured their sixth team title at Boston and reclaimed the title that they last held in 2008. They have been close over the last two years, finishing 3rd in 2009 and taking the runner-up spot last year. But it was the trio of Terry Shea, Alex Taylor, and Nate Krah that put the men back on top and gave Head Coach Michael Pieroni his fourth team victory. Shea led the team with his 2:20:48 - a new personal best. He was followed by the duo of Taylor and Krah who ran 2:22:19 and 2:22:24 respectively. Their combined time of 7:05:31 shattered the previous club record of 7:14:25 set twenty years ago in 1991. Their performance ranks as the third-fastest behind the 6:40:30 run by the 2006 Hansons-Brooks team and the 6:56:58 posted by CMS in 1991. As the women's coach, Shea has the unique distinction of having had a hand in both the men's and women's record-setting performances.

Despite a difficult winter of training, B.A.A. Running Club Members came to the line fit and ready to race. They were rewarded for the winter struggles with terrific weather conditions and strong performances. Cool temperatures and the always sought-after tailwind resulted in many all-time and Boston Marathon personal bests.
