Bowser is Victorious at the New England 5 Mile Championship
Diana Bowser was victorious in her return to the roads, easily capturing the USATF New England Grand Prix 5 Mile title at the Carver Cranberry 5 Mile Road Race in Carver, MA on Saturday, July 30, 2011. She led a 1-2 charge by B.A.A. in the women's division, with Brett Ely just behind her in the runner-up position. Carver marked Bowser's second New England title as she captured the half marathon crown at New Bedford in March. For Ely, it was her third consecutive runner-up finish, having placed second at the Rhody 5k in June and at the Stowe 8 Mile on July 17th. In between those races, she posted a 2:38 marathon at Grandma's. Both women went under 29 minutes on the loop course on a warm and humid July morning.

In the men's race, Justin Fyffe was the first of the B.A.A. men to cross the line, placing 4th overall. He was joined in the top ten by Will Dobbie and Terry Shea who placed 8th and 9th respectively. Also scoring for the team were Josh Ferenc and Wayne Levy. The men narrowly missed adding another USATF New England Grand Prix title to their list of accolades, finishing just 36 seconds out of first.

In all, the men have won two Grand Prix titles having claimed the top spot at the New Bedford Half Marathon in March and the Stowe 8 Mile in July. They also boast two individual New England Champions: Ruben Sanca (New Bedford Half Marathon) and Brian Harvey (Stowe 8 Mile). The women are 3 and 3 in New England Grand Prix titles with victories at New Bedford, the James Joyce Ramble 10k, and Stowe. They also have three individual champions in Bowser (half marathon and 5 mile) and Kasie Enman (Stowe). The final grand prix event is the Cape Cod Marathon on Sunday, October 30, 2011.
