Dionne Makes Her Mark as New England's Finest Marathoner
Hilary Dionne took advantage of a good weather to capitalize on her summer training and take home the title of New England’s Finest Marathoner at the Hartford Marathon on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in Hartford, CT. Her last marathon, the 2012 Boston Marathon, was not nearly as comfortable, yet Dionne ran 2:51 and was the third American woman in the prestigious race. With such an impressive finish in the heat, and a recent 1:16:52 half marathon, there was no doubt that Dionne was ready for a big day at Hartford. Running conservatively to start the race, Dionne ran a negative split on her way to a 2:40:34 and the win. Her performance was just shy of an eight-minute personal best which was set in her first marathon, the 2011 Cape Cod Marathon, where she ran 2:48:21, also for the win. On Saturday, she was 19th overall and led a string of B.A.A. women to top ten finishes in the marathon. In third place, also posting a personal best time, was Lindsay Willard who finished in 2:53:51; In 8th place was Lisa Kaplan who simultaneously took the bronze in the Master’s Division. Capping the top ten with her 10th place finish was Jacqui Cilley-Steinhouse in 3:07:47. On the men’s side, two-time Hartford Marathon Champion Patrick Moulton was eighth overall.

In addition to the marathon, a number of B.A.A. members also demonstrated that they were among New England's Finest runners. Samuel Alexander a recent Central Connecticut graduate, won the men’s 5k while his former college coach, Eric Blake, took 4th. In the half marathon, Daniel Hocking ran a personal best to finish 4th on 1:07:11 and Nicholas Wheeler was 9th in 1:09:07. For the women, Katie Moulton (nee Twarog) took home the silver in the women’s race running her fastest time at Hartford by over a minute.

The New England's Finest Program, co-sponsored by New England Runner Magazine and the Hartford Marathon, highlights many of the top runners in New England and New York. Since it's inception in 2008, Dionne is the fifth B.A.A. champion. Patrick Moulton won the inaugural title in 2008 and repeated in 2009; Jeannette (Seckinger) Faber also took back to back titles in 2009 and 2010.
