**Practice Cancelled Tuesday, October 30th**
Due to the predicted damaging winds and rain associated with Hurricane Sandy and the potential aftermath, and in the interest of the safety of all participants, Tuesday night practice at MIT has been cancelled. Practice will resume on Tuesday, November 20th; an email with additional information will be sent shortly. We appreciate your understanding.

1920 - Ashland Start

The Boston Marathon began in Ashland, Massachusetts from 1897 through 1923 then moved to Hopkinton for the 1924 race. The course was lengthened to 26 miles, 385 yards to conform to the Olympic standard, and the starting line was moved west from Ashland to Hopkinton. Since then, the race has started in Hopkinton every year.
