Faber, Ritchie Among the Top Finishers at the U.S. 20k Road Championship; Ely Sets CR in Kauai
Jeannette Faber and Timothy Ritchie took top places at the U.S 20k Championship, hosted by the New Haven 20k on Monday, September 3, 2012. Returning to the race with new 10k and marathon personal bests, Faber moved up a place from her 2011 finish and added another PB to her resume. Her 1:09:35 earned her 7th place overall and was over a minute faster than her 1:10:53 from last year. Ritchie cracked the top fifteen with his 1:01:47 , placing 14th overall in a deep race that saw the top four runners break the 60 minute mark. Eric Ashe, Brian Harvey and Jonathan Baker also posted solid performances with Ashe taking 22nd in 1:03:30, Harvey was 28th in 1:04:57 and Baker was 35th in 1:08:03

Also competing this weekend was Brett Ely, who won the Kauai Marathon in Kauai, HI on Sunday, September 2, 2012. Ely ran 2:46:05 to win handily and - and place 4th overall - while setting a new course record in the process. Her time shattered the previous course record of 3:10:07 and was over 3 minutes ahead of the next finisher and 3 1/2 minutes ahead of the second place woman.

1935 John A. Kelley

Born in West Medford, Massachusetts as one of ten children, Kelley ran track and cross-country at Arlington High School in Massachusetts. He did not finish his first Boston Marathon in 1928, but eventually competed in a record 61 Boston Marathons. A legend of the marathon, Kelley won the 1935 and 1945 runnings of the Boston Marathon. He finished in second place at Boston a record seven times. Between 1934 to 1950, he finished in the top five 15 times at Boston, consistently running in the 2:30s. He ran his last full marathon at Boston in 1992 at the age of 84, his 61st start and 58th finish there.
