B.A.A. Men's Master's Team Wins at New Bedford; Dionne Captures Rock 'n' Roll USA Half Marathon Title
The Boston Athletic Association took home a championship, two runner-up awards and a third-place nod at the New Bedford Half Marathon on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in New Bedford, MA. The Men's Master's team of Chris Magill, Keven O'Neil, Harry Stants, Wayne Levy, and Patrick Callaghan combined for a nearly 9-minute victory over the second place team. Magill was the second master and placed 24th overall.

In the men's and women's open races, the teams took home silver in the USATF New England Association Championship. The women, led by Sarah Bard's 4th place finish, were less than a minute behind the winning team. In the men's race, Dan Harper led the team with his fifth-place finish, followed in the top ten by Brian Harvey, Peter Gilmore, and Jared Markowitz. The B.A.A. Master's Women's Team of Mimi Fallon, Lisa Kaplan, and Lisa Danielson combined for an impressive third-place finish.

The New Bedford Half Marathon was the second race in the 2013 USATF New England Grand Prix Series. The first, the Jones Realty Group 10 Miler, was sparsley attended due to weather-related concerns. The next race in the series is on Thursday, June 13th, hosted by the Hollis Fast 5k in Hollis, NH.

Dionne Wins Rock 'n' Roll USA Half Marathon

Unable to return to New Bedford to defend her 2012 title, Hilary Dionne raced instead at the 2013 Rock 'n' Roll USA Half Marathon in Washington D.C. on Saturday, March 15th. Dionne won the race in 1:16:12, a 40-second PB and almost 3 minutes faster than her winning time at New Bedford last year. Dionne, who was the second American woman at the 2012 Boston Marathon, ran the half in preparation for the 2013 Boston Marathon.

B.A.A. Moment 6

1920 - Ashland Start

The Boston Marathon began in Ashland, Massachusetts from 1897 through 1923 then moved to Hopkinton for the 1924 race. The course was lengthened to 26 miles, 385 yards to conform to the Olympic standard, and the starting line was moved west from Ashland to Hopkinton. Since then, the race has started in Hopkinton every year.
