Samuel Alexander Named to Team USA For Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country
By virtue of his outstanding performance at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in December, Samuel Alexander has been selected to represent Team USA at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross-Country this Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The meet, in its 25th year, has featured some of the world's top cross country runners. LIVE streaming coverage of the event begins at 8:15am ET on USATF.tv

Alexander is an assistant coach for the Central Connecticut State University Cross Country and Track and Field teams. A former Central student-athlete Alexander led his team to three consecutive conference cross country championships and was the 2012 New England Champion in the 3,000m indoors. Alexander graduated from Central in the spring 2012 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree from CCSU in geography with an emphasis in planning.

1966 - Bobbi Gibb

Although not an official entrant, Roberta “Bobbi” Gibb became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon. Joining the starting field shortly after the gun had been fired, Gibb finished the race in 3:21:40 to place 126th overall. Gibb again claimed the “unofficial” title in 1967 and 1968.
