B.A.A. Podium Finishes at the 15k National Championship & New England Half Marathon Championship
It was an award-winning weekend for the Boston Athletic Association with teams representing the club at national and regional championships. On Saturday, six athletes toed the line in Florida at the Gate River Run 15k, the national road championship. The following day, sixty-plus B.A.A. runners took part in the New Bedford Half Marathon which was the host of the New England Half Marathon Championship. Both races concluded with B.A.A. teams and athletes on the podium, taking home many of the top awards.

At the Gate River Run, Tim Ritchie continued to make his mark on the road circuit, staying with the leaders until late in the race. He crossed the line in third, posting a 43:24 over 15k. Brian Harvey and Sam Alexander followed, finishing four places and nine seconds apart to help claim the runner-up spot for the team. For the women, it was Heather Cappello who was the first over the line. She combined with Katie Matthews and Jen Rhines to take home the silver in the team competition.

On Sunday, the team headed back to New Bedford to compete for the New England Championship title. The women secured a victory with a stellar performance from Hilary Dionne who posted a 1:14:55 for third-place overall, and solid races from Sarah Bard and Ravenna Neville.

For the master's men, it was not even close as the team of Chris Magill, Pete Hammer, Wayne Levy, Patrick Callahan, and Christopher Lawrence posted 14-minute margin of victory over the runner-up team. Magill also scored on the Open Men's Team, which was second overall. They were lead by two top ten finishes with Eric Ashe in fifth place and Brad Mish in seventh place.

Next up for the team is the An Ras Mor, the USATF New England Grand Prix 5k Championship. And just 5 weeks away, over 100 B.A.A. runners will be competing in the 118th Boston Marathon, with several more racing in the B.A.A. 5k, two days prior to Boston.
