Since 1997, the B.A.A. has conducted its middle school cross country program with Boston Parks and Recreation and the Boston Public Schools Department. Similar in structure to the Club 117 Training Program, the program presents a four week structured introduction to the sport of cross country.

The Boston Middle School Cross Country Championships are the culmination of the month-long program, sponsored by the B.A.A. and adidas. Focusing on the fundamentals of running, team participation, and health benefits, the training program offers a unique athletic opportunity to the youths of Greater Boston. Thousands of kids have participated in the event since its inception in 1997.

In 2012, over 200 participants from 10 Boston schools participated in the 17th annual Boston Middle School Cross Country Championships at Clemente Field.

The event consisted of races for boys and girls, as well as a relay race among teams from each of the participating schools.

The cross country training program and championship are part of the Boston Athletic Association’s year-round effort to promote health and fitness – especially running – to Boston-area youths.
