CAREER NOTES:
Caroline Cheptanui Kilel returns to the scene of her greatest running accomplishment, winning the 2011 Boston Marathon in mid-April. That race was not decided until the final few strides as American Desiree Davila kept up the pressure. Kilel would not yield, collapsing once victory was hers. "When we came to the last finishing [straight], and I saw the finish line, I tried to push, push, "she said."After the finish line, I fell down.”
This will be Kilel's first race since then and her first 10-K in the US, although she has had excellent results over the past few years with several victories and top finishes with times between 31:36 and 32:45.
She has been a member of two Kenyan IAAF World Half Marathon teams – fourth in 2009 – and had a top eight finish in the 2003 IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
Kilel was on the comeback from maternity leave as she and her husband Vincent Chepkwony have a three-year old son Travis. She hails from Bomet in the Rift Valley in Kenya and is now based in nearby Kericho.
