CAREER NOTES:
Moses Cheruiyot Mosop ran the most sensational debut in marathon history at Boston last April. Even acknowledging the net downhill drop and tailwinds, his 2:03:06 was an incredible two minutes and 44 seconds faster than any other first-timer.
Mosop's 10-K PR is in line for substantial improvement as his previous best of 28:04 was actually a split en route to a 42:25 15K. However, it would take close to a world record on the roads to better his track personal best of, a 26:49.55 set at Hengelo in 2007.
Two world records he will own, pending ratification, are the 25,000 and 30,000 meters which he ran in Eugene earlier this month. Although rarely contested, the previous world records had stood since 1981.
Mosop grew up the fourth of nine children on a farm in Kamasia. He is married to world-class distance runner Florence Kiplagat who has a 1:07:40 best for the half-marathon and ran the Boston Marathon but did not finish.
