Meet Nathan Moran

In March, Nathan Moran returned home from his first deployment as a member of the US Army. The Virgnia native (with ties to Ashland) was operating in support of the Combined Joint Task Force in the Horn of Africa. In his young military career, he’s had an impact - already earning his Ranger Tab and Expert Infantryman Badge.

Moran reported to West Point Military Academy in 2011, and after graduation headed to Infantry Branch training at Fort Benning, Georgia. From there he was assigned to an Infantry Battalion in Fort Drum, New York, and later deployed to Africa.

Running has been an important outlet during Moran’s deployment and time in service. This past December he ran the Grand Bara 15K Desert Race in Djibouti, and he ran a 1:32 Half Marathon on New Year’s Eve.

Although Moran was born in Virginia, his father was born in Ashland and keeps strong ties to the area. Moran spent his childhood visiting Ashland, and looks back with fond memories. “The opportunity to represent the town in which my father was raised and all members of the Armed Services at the 2018 Boston Marathon will be an honor,” he says.

Moran will start the commemorative relay race with Christopher Tighe on April 16, in Hopkinton, and pass the baton to the next tandem in the town where his family has roots.
