Information on Gear Check, Baggage Policy, and Start Area Bag

GEAR CHECK

On race morning, participants may check their plastic finish area gear bag at designated gear check tents on Boylston Street between Arlington and Berkeley Streets. This area is two blocks east of the finish line and one block west of the Boston Public Garden (see image to the right). Signs on the gear check tents will be color coded by waves with numbers corresponding to participant bib numbers, indicating where to drop your bag. A pre-approved finish area gear check bag will be included with your race packet at Number Pick-up. The clear drawstring bag measures 18” x 19” with a 5” gusseted bottom is labeled on one side as your finish area gear bag. No other bags will be accepted.

In your race packet, you will receive a pre-printed adhesive label with your bib number on it that should be used for gear check. You must affix the label to your approved gear bag before handing it to race personnel. The drawstrings on the bag should be cinched and tied to ensure that your belongings do not fall out. No gear check bags will be allowed on the B.A.A. shuttle buses to Hopkinton.

Do not check any valuables. Although we will do our best to ensure that your gear is waiting for you at the end of the race, we are not responsible for lost items and/or gear check bags.

 

HOURS OF GEAR CHECK

Gear check bags may be checked on Boylston Street between 5:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. on Monday, April 17. Gear check bags may be claimed from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17.

 

UNCLAIMED GEAR CHECK

Gear check bags not claimed by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, will be transported to the Boston Common Hotel and Conference Center at 40 Trinity Place, located at the corner of Stuart Street and Trinity Place. Gear check bags may be claimed on Tuesday, April 18, and Wednesday, April 19.

 

HOPKINTON

There is no gear check in Hopkinton. No gear check bags will be accepted in, or transported from, Hopkinton. All items left in Hopkinton will be donated to charity. 

 

START AREA BAG

At number pick-up, all participants will receive a small, plastic Start Area Bag that is to be used for carrying food items on race morning. Only the small, plastic Start Area Bag will be allowed on B.A.A. buses and in the Athletes’ Village. This is the only bag allowed on buses or in the Athletes’ Village. PLEASE NOTE: The small, plastic Start Area Bag WILL NOT be transported back to Boston. There is no gear check or bag collection in Hopkinton, and no bags will be transported from the start in Hopkinton to Boston.

 

START AREA BAG FAQS

  • What is a Start Area Bag?
    The Start Area Bag is a small, plastic bag provided by the B.A.A. This is the only bag that is allowed on B.A.A. Transportation and in the Athletes’ Village.
  • What can I put in or use my Start Area Bag for?
    The Start Area Bag is meant to carry food items and other small items which you may discard at the start, including water, pre-race food, tissues, or an energy bar.
  • What do I do with my Start Area Bag before I start?
    Please make sure to dispose of your Start Area Bag in an appropriate trash receptacle in Hopkinton. NO START AREA BAGS WILL BE TRANSPORTED BACK TO BOSTON.
  • Will the B.A.A. transport any items left in my Start Area Bag back to Boston?
    No bags will be transported back to Boston.
