Jack Fultz won the hottest Boston Marathon on record (known as the "Run For The Hoses"), as temperatures soared near 100 degrees. More than 40% of the 1,942 starters never finished the race.
1920 - Ashland Start
The Boston Marathon began in Ashland, Massachusetts from 1897 through 1923 then moved to Hopkinton for the 1924 race. Since then, the race has started in Hopkinton every year.
