Playworks is a national nonprofit organization that provides safe, healthy and inclusive play and physical activity to schools at recess and throughout the entire school day. We stop the chaos on the playground, shift behavior and accelerate learning. No other organization matches our experience transforming play and recess into tools to support learning. Since 1996, we’ve worked on-site with hundreds of low-income schools in major urban areas.

The 2010-11 school year will be the fifth year of operations for Playworks in Metro Boston. This year we will deliver our in and out-of-school program in 27 low-income schools across Boston, Cambridge and Revere, impacting 10,000 kids a day. Our comprehensive program fulfills our mission of improving the health and well being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play.

Playworks Metro Boston was recently recognized as a Social Innovator by the Social Innovation Forum. We have a proven and scalable approach to increasing physical activity in low-income schools and we are positioned for growth.  Our vision is to grow to 40 schools across Massachusetts by 2012, impacting 14,000 kids daily!
