Newton-Wellesley is a community teaching hospital in Massachusetts, located right on the course of the Boston Marathon. It provides a full range of orthopedic, joint, physical medicine and rehabilitation services to handle a wide variety of sports-related injuries.

Newton-Wellesley hospital is proud to be an official sponsor of the Athletes’ Village medical tents in Hopkinton, taking care of a wide-range of runner’s last-minute medical needs, and in many cases, just an wish of encouragement.

1972 - Women Official Entrants in Marathon

Although Bobbi Gibb was the first woman to complete the Boston Marathon in 1966, it was not until the 1972 Boston Marathon that women could become official entrants due to a change in AAU rules.
