ABOUT THE ROLE  

The Digital Communications Manager is a key role reporting to the Director of Communications & Media Relations. Part of the broader Marketing Team, this role is primarily responsible for all elements of the organization’s digital media content creation, management, collaboration, and strategy. The role also supports various team initiatives both internally and externally, particularly surrounding major events like the Boston Marathon. This role is based in the B.A.A.’s Boston office.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media & Website Management 

  • Manage the B.A.A.’s social content calendar for all channels including Team B.A.A., Boston Marathon, and the B.A.A. across 9 accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, & LinkedIn). 
  • Create, lead, and measure social media strategies and corresponding analysis with Director of Communications & Media Relations, including provision of insights & guidance on trends and leveraging analytics to guide social media calendar strategy. 
  • Develop digital media assets including graphics, videos, and photos 
  • Execute sponsor-obligated campaigns and reports surrounding the Boston Marathon 
  • Develop campaigns to promote and support B.A.A. events, Running Club, High Performance Team, and community engagement in partnership 
  • Oversee paid social media strategy and temporary social media support, especially over Boston Marathon Race Week 
  • Manage the organization’s website, including digital content creation, Google Analytics, and ensuring an optimized user experience. 
  • Serve as internal lead for work groups to coordinate updates or new idea implementation for website, including content accuracy and relevance. 

Digital Media

  • Manage the organization’s digital media library including photography, logos, and other brand materials
  • Assist internal teams in developing and maintaining database of video b-roll
  • Fulfill both internal and external digital media needs and requests
  • Develop digital assets including graphics, videos, and photos for social media, website, mobile apps, and other modalities as requested 

Media Relations 

  • Support Director of Communications & Media Relations 
  • Assist in the execution and management of printed materials, press releases, and electronic communications for participants and other stakeholders. 
  • Support press conferences, professional athlete engagement, media operations, media credential system, and other race activities as needed. 
  • Oversee the content plan, schedule, and production of videos including the Boston Marathon Clinic Series 
  • Support all race day communications including videography, photography, media relations, credentialing, and other tasks as assigned 
  • Other duties as assigned 

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR  

  • 3-4 years of digital media management experience in a dynamic organization 
  • 2-3 years of strategic social media management across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok 
  • Experience with content creation, including video production 
  • Ability to successfully maintain a consistent voice throughout the organization’s digital media platforms and a global running audience, and continue to develop innovative ideas to promote the B.A.A. 
  • Work collaboratively across the Communications, Marketing, and PR teams to build unique video/digital stories which promote the B.A.A. and its mission. 
  • Adept at project management and content creation in the digital media space with ability to drive forward  
  • Someone who is flexible, adaptable, and can work inside and outside of their job scope when the situation calls for going extra mile. 
  • Endurance sports or running industry experience is preferred, but not required.  

WORK EXPECTATIONS AT THE B.A.A.

The role will also require working some weekends and nights approaching scheduled B.A.A. events. There may be longer work hours surrounding event production. Limited local travel required. The B.A.A. will be practicing a hybrid work model beginning in February 2023, and an onsite presence will be required in either the Boston or Hopkinton offices up to 2-3 days per week. 

COVID-19 Guidelines: We continue to adapt to safety protocols related to COVID-19 as we understand them. All candidates must comply with B.A.A.’s current COVID-19 Guidelines, including B.A.A.’s vaccination requirement. All employees must receive at least the first dose of the vaccination no later than one week after their start date and must be fully vaccinated no later than 4 weeks later. For this policy, individuals are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 two weeks after they have received the second dose in a two-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) or two weeks after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and  Johnson/Janssen).  

We require all employees to receive the COVID vaccine. For the safety of the community, B.A.A. employees are expected to obtain COVID tests if they have symptoms or have traveled by plane. Quarantining may be required after air travel. Offer of employment will be contingent upon proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
