The American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.  The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts serves 190 cities and towns across the region with a population of over 4.9 million people, including the North Shore, Greater Boston, and Cape Cod & Islands. Funds raised through the B.A.A. Marathon Charity Program help support our vital programs and services, including: Disaster Services, Food and Nutrition, International Social Services, Healthcare Job Training, Preparedness Health and Safety, Services to the Armed Forces, Youth and Volunteerism.

1920 - Ashland Start

The Boston Marathon began in Ashland, Massachusetts from 1897 through 1923 then moved to Hopkinton for the 1924 race.  Since then, the race has started in Hopkinton every year.
