The Kita Center
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE KITA CENTER IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THEIR 128TH BOSTON MARATHON TEAM.
The Kita Center is proud to be an official charity of the 2024 Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program. For nearly a decade, you've known us as Camp Kita, a sanctuary offering a week-long summer camp program for children who have suffered the heartbreaking loss of a loved one to suicide. As Camp Kita, we've been privileged to guide and witness countless stories of resilience, growth, and healing.
The Kita Center’s mission is to prevent suicide by building intentional environments to foster connections and a lifelong engagement with mental wellness. We do this using a dual-process approach in our programs that balances therapy with restorative activities which include physical activity, creative expression, and social connections. The cornerstone of our approach to therapy is to provide the tools and the environment that will inspire integrating mental wellness into our daily lives.
Our signature program, Camp Kita, is a bereavement camp for children ages 8-17 who have lost a loved one to suicide. Now as The Kita Center, we're expanding to offer training programs, retreats for underserved and hard-hit communities, support groups, and a sanctuary for social connection. Our camp program will remain a vital part of what we do. Our screen-free programs provide residential retreats for children and families that have been exposed to suicide or are at risk of suicide, in addition to community training, with a vision of generational transformation.
