About the B.A.A.

Celebrating a Legacy of Running, Fitness & Community

Founded in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association fosters sports and physical fitness, hosting races and community events throughout Boston. The B.A.A. organized the first Boston Marathon in 1897, now the world’s oldest annual marathon. Today, the B.A.A., supported by our official partners, continues to champion running and wellness through distance races and year-round community programs across Greater Boston.
