2018 Boston Marathon to Feature Ceremonial Military Relay

Sixteen members of U.S. Armed Forces to pass baton along course on Patriots' Day

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced a commemorative military relay will be included in the 122nd running of the Boston Marathon on April 16, 2018. A team of sixteen active and retired military personnel -- representing five branches of the military and the eight cities and towns of the Marathon course -- will pass a baton along the race route in recognition of the B.A.A.’s Year of Service.

BOSTON – Eight Boston Marathon champions, including reigning winners Marcel Hug and Manuela Schar of Switzerland, will compete in the push rim wheelchair division of the 122nd Boston Marathon on Monday, April 16. More than 50 athletes will be part of the wheelchair division, which starts in Hopkinton before the open race featuring 30,000 runners.

Ricardo Santos Named New Coach of B.A.A. High Performance Team

Santos succeeds Terrence Mahon, who continues to serve the B.A.A. High Performance team in an advisory capacity.

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that Ricardo Santos will become the next coach of its High Performance Running Team, effective March 15. Santos most recently served as Director of the Iona College (New Rochelle, New York) Cross Country and Track and Field Programs.

Team B.A.A.’s Sarah Pagano Wins USATF National Club Cross Country Title

B.A.A. Women’s team and Men’s Masters team place second at National Championships

BOSTON – B.A.A. High Performance team member Sarah Pagano won the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships earlier today in Lexington, Kentucky, earning the first individual national title of her career. Covering the six-kilometer course in 19:40, Pagano led the B.A.A. to second place finish in the Women’s open team competition with 60 points.

Dr. Michael P. O’Leary Named President of the B.A.A.

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that Dr. Michael P. O’Leary has been elected B.A.A. President by the B.A.A. Board of Governors. O’Leary succeeds Joann Flaminio, the first female President in B.A.A. history, whose term ended this year after serving in the position since 2011.
