Two new organizations join for the 122nd Boston Marathon

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association has announced the 34 organizations selected for the B.A.A.’s Official Charity Program for the 2018 Boston Marathon. Two new organizations have joined the B.A.A.’s program for the 122nd Boston Marathon, to be run on Monday, April 16, 2018.

Boston, MA -- Kenyans Daniel Salel and Joan Chelimo swept the top spots at today’s 17th annual B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. Salel completed the three-peat, running away from a large lead pack in the final two miles before breaking the tape in 1:04:31.

BOSTON - The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today continued its notification to applicants of their acceptance into the 2018 Boston Marathon®. In preparation for the 2018 Boston Marathon, the B.A.A. implemented the same registration process for qualified runners as it used in the 2012 through 2017 Boston Marathons, allowing the fastest qualifiers to register first. The 122nd Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 and will mark the 33rd consecutive year that the event will have John Hancock as its principal sponsor.

Registration for the 2018 Boston Marathon Closes

Maximum number of runners to submit a qualifying time has now been reached.

BOSTON, Mass. - Registration for the 2018 Boston Marathon began on September 11, and the maximum number of athletes who qualified and applied for entry has now been reached. The Boston Marathon does not have a waiting list, late registration on race weekend, or race day registration. Neither entry nor bibs may be transferred.

Terrence Mahon to Complete Work as Director of B.A.A. High Performance Program

California native to return to west coast at the conclusion of 2017

BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston Athletic Association today announced that head coach of its high performance team, Terrence Mahon, will depart the organization at the conclusion of 2017, to return to his home state of California. Since 2013, Mahon has led the high performance group of the B.A.A., with its athletes and teams winning races and accumulating podium finishes around the world. B.A.A.

BOSTON -- Registration for the 2018 Boston Marathon opens on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The B.A.A. will use the same process to register qualified runners as it used in the 2012 through 2017 Boston Marathons, allowing the fastest qualifiers to register first.

Registration will be held entirely online at www.baa.org, and qualifying performances run since September 17, 2016 may be submitted for entry.

B.A.A. Names Marla Runyan Athletes with Disabilities Manager

B.A.A. Expands Leadership with Appointment of COO

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has appointed Jack Fleming as its Chief Operating Officer. Fleming had been serving as the B.A.A.’s Director of Marketing and Communications. The promotion complements the previous appointment of Tom Grilk as Chief Executive Officer.

SUH Yun-Bok

1947 Boston Marathon champion passed away at the age of 94

SUH Yun-Bok, the 1947 Boston Marathon champion from Korea, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 94. Suh was the first Asian champion of the Boston Marathon, setting a then-world record of 2:25:39. It was the first world record ever set on the roads leading to Boston. Suh was an Olympian in 1948, and served as a sports administrator in South Korea for many years.
