New Division a First-of-its-Kind Offering in Major Marathon Events

BOSTON, MA (10-April) – With over four decades of experience hosting a diversity of athletes, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) will become the first major marathon to include competitive divisions for classified ambulatory Para athletes in 2020. This announcement marks the B.A.A.’s organizational transition from “Athletes with Disabilities” to “Para Athletic Divisions” and “Adaptive Programs.”

Defending champions Buze Diriba and Hagos Gebrhiwet join American record holder Ben True to lead full slate of B.A.A. races on Saturday

BOSTON – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced an elite field of world class competitors for the 2019 B.A.A. 5K and B.A.A. Invitational Mile, to be held on Saturday, April 13, two days prior to the 2019 Boston Marathon®. Defending champions Hagos Gebrhiwet and Buze Diriba, both of Ethiopia, return to defend their 2018 titles, as American record holder Ben True will look to earn his fifth B.A.A. 5K crown.

BOSTON (1-April) – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced the Grand Marshal for the 123rd Boston Marathon, to be run on Monday, April 15, 2019. Meb Keflezighi, winner of the 2014 Boston Marathon, will serve as Grand Marshal on Patriots’ Day, leading the way for 30,000 participants on their journey from Hopkinton to Boston. 

The Boston Marathon is the oldest consecutively run marathon in the world and is annually held on Patriots’ Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. For the 34th year, John Hancock is the principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of her 1979 victory, Samuelson returns to race from Hopkinton to Boston
