Lawrence Cherono Wins 2019 Boston Marathon Title With Last Second Surge

In one of the most exciting finishes in Boston Marathon history, three men took the famous turn on Hereford Street in tandem, setting the stage for a memorable sprint down Boylston Street. The 123rd Boston Marathon would turn out to be a kicker’s classic, as Kenya’s Lawrence Cherono edged Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa by two seconds at the line, 2:07:57 to 2:07:59, using every ounce of energy to break the tape. Kenneth Kipkemoi finished third in 2:08:07. 

Photo Finishes Highlight B.A.A. Invitational Mile

The blustery, wet conditions that swept through Boston in the early morning eased by the time Saturday’s B.A.A. Invitational Mile races got underway adjacent to the Boston Marathon finish line. A full slate of races was capped off by the Invitational Women’s race, which came down to a photo finish as Nikki Hiltz out-leaned Emily Lipari for the victory. For the Invitational Men, Robert Domanic took the victory in his professional debut. 

Rain Doesn't Dampen Exciting Races at 2019 B.A.A. 5K

Hagos Gebrhiwet of Ethiopia defended his title, Monicah Ngige of Kenya triumphed after a third-place finish in 2018, and 8,484 participants dodged spring raindrops as they made their way through the historic Back Bay to the finish the 11th-annual B.A.A. 5K. In the wheelchair division, Francisco Sanclemente of Colombia and Eliza Ault-Connell of Australia each set course records, finishing in 11:24 and 12:16, respectively.

B.A.A. Announces Meb Keflezighi as 2019 Boston Marathon Grand Marshal

BOSTON (1-April) – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced the Grand Marshal for the 123rd Boston Marathon, to be run on Monday, April 15, 2019. Meb Keflezighi, winner of the 2014 Boston Marathon, will serve as Grand Marshal on Patriots’ Day, leading the way for 30,000 participants on their journey from Hopkinton to Boston.
