Media Credential Application Now Open for 127th Boston Marathon

BOSTON—The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) is now accepting media credential applications from outlets intending to cover the 127th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 17, 2023. A field of 30,000 entrants from 116 countries and all 50 U.S. states will compete on Patriots’ Day.

Instructions on how to apply for media credentials and a detailed media events schedule can be found below. Please note that media credential allocations and workspaces within media areas are limited at this year’s Boston Marathon. We will do our best to grant as many media credentials as possible, though are unable to guarantee access to those who have received media credentials in the past.

Resources including the race media guide, transcripts of interviews, results, splits, courtesy photos, and other pertinent race information will be made available here closer to race day.

The deadline to submit media credential applications is Friday, March 31.

All media members are required to adhere to the Boston Marathon Media Access Guidelines, which can be found here. Violation of the Boston Marathon Media Access Guidelines will result in loss of credential(s) and loss of future Boston Marathon media privileges.

Credentials will only be granted to those working for a recognized media outlet. Access to areas such as the start in Hopkinton, media workspace within the Fairmont Copley Plaza, media vehicles, and photo bridge will be limited this year.

FRIDAY, APRIL 14 – BOSTON MARATHON MEDIA DAY

John Hancock Professional Athlete Press Conference | 10:00 a.m. | Fairmont Copley Plaza

Members of the John Hancock Professional Athlete field, including Olympic and Paralympic medalists, race champions, and winners of Abbott World Marathon Majors races, will be available for group and individual interviews.

 

FRIDAY, APRIL 14 THROUGH SUNDAY, APRIL 16

Boston Marathon Expo | Hynes Convention Center

The Boston Marathon Expo will be open to participants and members of the public from Friday, April 14 through Sunday, April 16. Participants will pick up their bib numbers and explore a sponsor pavilion, pose for photo-ops, and shop the largest collection of adidas Boston Marathon merchandise in town. Boston Marathon Fan Fest | Copley Square

Boston Marathon Fan Fest in Copley Square Park will be the place to soak in the race week atmosphere. Fan Fest will play host to live music, entertainment, photo-ops, meet and greets, archives, the final Boston Marathon training clinic, and more. An events schedule will be available soon here.

 

SATURDAY, APRIL 15 – ONE BOSTON DAY

2023 B.A.A. 5K | 8:00 a.m. | Boston Common

Nearly 10,000 participants will take part in the first race of the B.A.A. Distance Medley, racing 3.1 miles through Back Bay. A stellar professional field features top American and international athletes. Media can apply for a B.A.A. 5K credential within the Media Application link above.

2023 B.A.A. Invitational Mile | 10:30 a.m. | Boylston Street/Boston Marathon Finish Line

The B.A.A. Invitational Mile features some of the top professional milers in the world, as well as scholastic student-athletes from each of the eight cities and towns along the Boston Marathon route. A list of top entrants will be announced closer to race day.

2023 B.A.A. Relay Challenge | 3:00 p.m. | Boylston Street between Dartmouth & Clarendon Streets

More than 20 middle schools and youth programs from around Greater Boston will gather for the B.A.A. Relay Challenge. In the culmination of a month-long program taught by volunteer coaches, the relay challenge features students racing in relays and learning running tips from B.A.A. athletes and coaches.

One Boston Day Remembrance Event

As we mark the tenth year since the April 15, 2013 tragic events on Boylston Street, the City of Boston and B.A.A. will honor this day with a remembrance event in the Back Bay on Saturday, April 15, 2023. More details about this event will be announced in the coming weeks.

 

MONDAY, APRIL 17 – 127th BOSTON MARATHON RACE DAY

127th Boston Marathon | Hopkinton to Boston, MA

A field of 30,000 athletes will participate in the 127th running of the Boston Marathon, covering 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston. The world’s oldest annually run marathon celebrates community spirit and the pursuit of athletic excellence each year. A media work room with seating will be available first-come, first-served in the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel.

Boston Marathon Mile 27 Post-Race Party presented by Samuel Adams | 6:30 p.m. | Fenway Park

The Mile 27 Post-Race Party presented by Samuel Adams returns to Fenway Park. Finishers can enjoy America's most beloved ballpark, walk on the warning track, and savor refreshments as they cheers to conquering 26.2 miles. Media members can gain access to the Post-Race Party with their media credential.

 

TUESDAY, APRIL 18

Boston Marathon Champions’ Press Conference | 10:00 a.m. | Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel

This press conference will feature champions of the 127th Boston Marathon and other notable finishers, as well as officials from the Boston Athletic Association.

 

For the 38th year, John Hancock will serve as principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon.
