Spectator Tips & Guidelines

The race starts near Boston Common at 8:00 a.m. and finishes on Charles Street between the Common and Public Garden. A course map can be found here.

Free youth races will be offered on Boston Common, giving young runners up to 12 years old the chance to experience the fun and excitement of race day.

EVENT SCHEDULE 

  • 7:45 – 8:30 a.m. — Youth Race Registration, Bib Pick-Up, and Kids Activity Stations open
  • 8:00 a.m. — Start of the B.A.A. 10K
  • 8:30 a.m. — Youth Races begin on Boston Common (loop around Parkman Bandstand)

IMPORTANT NOTES 

  • All participants will receive a bib number and will receive a medal.
  • Events will not be timed, and results will not be recorded.
  • Pre-registration is free and strongly encouraged.
  • All participants registering on race day will need to have a parent or guardian sign a participation waiver.
  • All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult who will remain with them throughout their participation.
  • Race day registration will close promptly at 8:15 a.m. on race morning.

Streets and roadways which comprise and abut the 10K course will be closed to vehicular traffic at approximately 7:30 a.m. on race day. Charles Street is expected to close at 5:00 a.m. and reopen at approximately at 11:30 a.m. Roads will reopen later in the morning per judgement of Boston Police and Massachusetts State Police.

Spectators are not allowed to enter the course, run alongside athletes, or impede athletes in any manner. Security personnel, public safety representatives, and Race Officials will be located throughout the course.

Please be respectful of the environment and community. Spectators are asked not to throw anything onto the course, including but not limited to confetti or streamers. Please pick up any trash from your area, and respect traditional carry-in, carry-out standards.

The B.A.A. and all public safety agencies encourage the public to actively participate in the See Something Say Something campaign. Spectators are asked to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious conduct or items to the closest law enforcement officer or by calling 9-1-1.

The Course

Starting and finishing adjacent to Boston Common, the route runs along the Charles River, through Kenmore Square, and over the Boston Marathon finish line.

Road Closure Notice
