Race Week Reminders: 10,000 Athletes Expected for 2026 B.A.A. 10K presented by Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute

Boston Marathon and B.A.A. 10K Champions Sharon Lokedi, Daniel Romanchuk and Tatyana McFadden Lead the Way 

BOSTON (Wednesday, June 17) – The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) looks forward to welcoming nearly 10,000 participants to the 2026 B.A.A. 10K presented by Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute on Sunday, June 21. The 6.2-mile route crosses the Charles River, features beautiful views of Boston and Cambridge, passes over the Boston Marathon finish line, and finishes at Boston Common. The race begins at 8:00 a.m. ET.   

MEDIA INFORMATION: Media members interested in covering the B.A.A. 10K presented by Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute may apply for credentials here. For those who’ve already applied, credential pick-up will occur at the Media Tent on Boston Common on Sunday, June 21 from 6:00 a.m.-7:30 a.m. A media viewing area will be located close to the finish line, and post-race interviews with top finishers will be held at the Media Tent shortly after the finish.

BOSTON CHAMPIONS, OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC STARS HEADLINE PROFESSIONAL FIELD: This year’s B.A.A. 10K professional field features Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America champions Sharon Lokedi, Daniel Romanchuk, and Tatyana McFadden; U.S. Olympian Hillary Bor; plus London Marathon winner Alexander Mutiso and Olympic bronze medalist Hagos Gebrhiwet. T62 10K world record holder Brian Reynolds (T42-T44/T61-T64, lower limb impairment) as well as para champions Atsbha Gebremeskel (T45-T47, upper limb impairment) and Cristina Burbach (T35-T38, coordination impairment) also return. 

With a time of 31:39 at last year’s B.A.A. 10K, Sharon Lokedi enters as defending champion. This year’s B.A.A. 10K will be her first race back following her victory at the 130th Boston Marathon in 2:18:51 – the second fastest winning time in Boston Marathon history (only behind her 2:17:22 course record from 2025). 

“Boston holds a special place in my heart, and I look forward to running through the city once again in June at the B.A.A. 10K,” said Lokedi. “From the 10K to the Boston Marathon, the community comes alive every race day. I’mready to give my best to defend my title.”

In addition, the following athletes have withdrawn from this year’s race: Rachel Smith (USA), Jessica Donohue (USA), Wil Smith (USA), Simon Mutula (KEN), Lily Partridge (GBR). 

PRE-RACE MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES: On June 20, one day before the B.A.A. 10K, members of the professional field will make appearances throughout Greater Boston. Please RSVP to media@baa.org if you would like to attend any of these events. (Athletes subject to change).  

  • Shake Out Run Along the Charles River: Professional athletes including two-time Boston Marathon champions Sharon Lokedi and Daniel Romanchuk, London Marathon winner Alexander Mutiso, 2:05:46 marathoner Ryan Ford, and Para Athletics Division champions Marko Cheseto Lemtukei and Kelly Bruno will participate in a Q&A and lead a shake out run at 10 a.m. at the Arthur Fiedler Statue along the Charles River Esplanade.  
  • Pro Athlete Meet & Greet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center: Over 20 youth running organizations are invited to a Pro Athlete Meet & Greet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, where they will have an opportunity to hear from professional athletes competing in this year’s B.A.A. 10K presented by Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute. Professional athletes in attendance will include Yen Hoang, Viola Cheptoo, Brian Reynolds, Stacy Ndiwa, Gracelyn Larkin, Gabi Rooker, Hilary Bor, and Adriaan Wildschutt. The professional athletes will answer questions about their journey into running, then allow for questions from the attendees. The event will finish with an opportunity for photos and autographs from the athletes. Timing for the appearance is tentatively 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

A special media leaderboard and top results link will be available on race morning at https://bstnmar.org/2610KTopResults. Links will be activated closer to race day. 

TEAM MASS GENERAL BRIGHAM: Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, the B.A.A. 10K’s presenting sponsor and exclusive fundraising partner, is bringing together a team of more than 600 fundraising participants who’ve already raised more than $300,000 to advance cancer care and make a difference for patients with cancer and their families. FAST FACTS: Citizens of 107 countries and residents of 44 U.S. states (plus Washington, D.C.) are registered. The youngest entrant is 12 while the oldest entrant is 84 years old. 

COURSE MAP: This year’s race will feature the same course as last year’s B.A.A. 10K, including scenic views of the Charles River and finishes at Boston Common. Crossing both the Longfellow and Mass. Ave. bridges, and running alongside the Charles River and Memorial Drive, runners can expect a memorable 6.2-miles of fun. In the final mile, runners will go over the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston Street before proceeding to the B.A.A.10K finish on Charles Street adjacent to Boston Common.   

B.A.A. RACING APP: Participants and spectators are encouraged to download the free B.A.A. Racing App prior to race day. The racing app is home to live participant tracking, leaderboards, and more!The B.A.A. Racing App is available on iOS and Android. 

ROAD CLOSURES:  Roadways which comprise and abut the B.A.A. 10K course will be closed to vehicular traffic on the morning of June 21 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Charles Street is expected to close at 5:00 a.m. and reopen approximately at 11:30 a.m. Roads will reopen later in the morning per judgement of Boston Police and Massachusetts State Police. 

No parking zones will be posted on certain parts of the course, including portions of Beacon Street, Boylston Street, Charles Street, Bay State Road, and Silber Way.  

CREDENTIALS: Media members interested in covering the B.A.A. 10K presented by Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute may apply for credentials here. Credentials will be available for pick-up on race morning from 6:00-7:30 a.m. at the Media Tent within Boston Common (adjacent to the finish line).
