B.A.A. Recognizes Student-Athletes through Class of 2020 and B.A.A. Honor Roll

The Boston Athletic Association proudly recognizes the B.A.A. Scholastic Mile Class of 2020 and Middle School 1K Honor Roll. Sixty-four middle and high school athletes from the cities and towns along the Boston Marathon route have been named to the lists, which celebrates student-athletes who were selected to represent their hometowns on Boston Marathon weekend.

Keizo Yamada

The B.A.A. has learned that Keizo Yamada, the 1953 Boston Marathon champion from Japan, passed away on April 2 of natural causes at the age of 92. At the 57th Boston Marathon, Yamada set a new course record by claiming victory in a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 51 seconds, becoming the race’s second champion from Japan.

The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon. The B.A.A. manages this American classic, which is sponsored by John Hancock. This year's edition will be the 124th running of the iconic event.

2020 B.A.A. 5K

An estimated 10,000 participants take part in the annual B.A.A. 5K each year. Starting and finishing at Boston Common, the race course passes over the Boston Marathon finish line. Race registration typically opens in January/February.

WBZ and B.A.A. Announce Patriots' Day Of Giving on Monday, April 20

On Monday, April 20, CBS Boston’s WBZ-TV and The Boston Athletic Association will help bring people together with an all-day fundraising effort, “A Patriots’Day of Giving,”to help raise funds and awareness for the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund. This effort will rally people in their homes with special Boston Marathon programming, including a rebroadcast of the 2014 and 2018 races as well as an airing of BOSTON: The Documentary, the definitive history of the world’s greatest race.

2020 B.A.A. 10K Postponed Until November 22

Road Race Postponed due to COVID-19 Pandemic

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that the 2020 B.A.A. 10K, presented by Brigham and Women’s Hospital, has been postponed from June 21 until Sunday, November 22, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officially registered participants will remain entered in the event. If entrants cannot participate in November, they will have the opportunity to receive a refund.

Boston Athletic Association Donates $100,000 to Boston Resiliency Fund and Contributes Medical Supplies, Food to Local Agencies

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced it will contribute $100,000 to the Boston Resiliency Fund, which provides essential services to Boston residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to donating race-related medical supplies and food to local agencies.

B.A.A. to offer refunds for first time

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that participants in the 2020 Boston Marathon, which was originally scheduled for April 20, 2020 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, may elect to receive a refund for entry fees associated with the Boston Marathon.

All registered participants will remain entered in the event, now scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2020. If entrants cannot participate in September, they will have the opportunity to receive a refund.
